Japanese homestay Yatta!

on 12/20/2007 10:11:00 AM

Sometime during 2nd trimester i've applied for the japanese homestay program organized by JLS and somehow i managed to get through the interview. I guess they really wanted bubbly and talkative applicant cos my alter ego which takes place during any interviews apparently suited their criteria :p Loo Mun applied too but during that time she was abit cranky and tired (since she came back from KL right after work jz to have this interview) and thus she din managed to get a place.

That day after the interview, i sent loo mun to EP early in the morning to catch the Bus Wira. As we were reaching the bus stop, we were half shocked as the Blue & White bus flew pass in front of us. With half a brain awake, I recklessly accelerated to trail the bus. Loo Mun apparently was still shocked and doesn't really know my intention of doing that. When we arrived at the traffic junction, the red light was on and i zig zag through the long queue of cars, getting nearer and nearer to the bus. And there, right beside the bus, i knocked frantically on the glass pane of the bus's door. Time was running out as the Traffic light timer goes down to 1X seconds. Luckily the driver opened up the door and without ado, i shouted at loomun (she's half dazed) and ushered her to jump off the bike onto the bus. she threw back the helmet at me and at that time the count down is less than 3 seconds. Seeing her on the bus, i was relieved but then the game's not over yet. The green light turned on and at that critical moment, my bike's engine died. the bus started moving forwards and i'm sandwiched between a car and a bus. It was really terrifying as i kept restarting the bike while praying that the cars behind won't bang into me. Well, the sleepiness in me earlier was definitely gone at that time, replaced by icy fear. In the nick of time, the engine roared to life and off i go! Thank god that i din get injured at all. Loo Mun sms me later on and asked if i'm still alive because the bus turned to another road and she lost track of me as i was still stuck at the traffic junction. So moral of the story: never do any stunts when you are half awake :p

back to the homestay program. Well, it is one of the reason why i started working in Coffee Bean, and why i am still working now even if i have 5 subjects this trimester. Besides, During GACC, i'll be setting up a doujin booth to sell Heise's Artbook to earn some extra bucks. For those who are interested, I'll post about it later after i finish writing about the homestay.

So we will be going to stay in hekinan, a small town in aichi prefecture. Apparently we have to cook sth for a welcome party over there as well as doing some performances. well knowing how good my skills in cooking, the best is jz to do some drinks or dessert haha. besides i dun think we can get any necessary ingredient conveniently over there. knowing the ingredient name in japanese will be the biggest challenge haha. As for performances.. we'll come out with something soon i hope. i really don't want to bring my Er Hu over there and embarrass myself with my rusted skills :p

Although we have to do these stuff, what i'm interested in is to visit Toyota's manufacturing site :) really hope we will go to see the partner robot which can play a trumpet using its lips. we will be going to alot of places considerably interesting for engin students, and besides that, we will be going to visit a highschool too. this is the tricky part.. we have to do a study on our own country cos the students there will be asking us about our homeland *gulp* like wat's the population of your hometown etc. so before going to japan i have to brush up not only my japanese, but also general knowledge about Msia orz.

This time we won't be going to Tokyo most probably because it's really far from hekinan and time consuming for us to travel using the cheapest available trasportation, which is bus. so no Akihabara for us *sob* anyway comiket is in August so we won't be able to make it too. Instead, we will be going to osaka and kyoto. so not bad too la. i can take snapshots of beautiful sceneries and traditional building.

Anyway, i'll be bringing a laptop (yes i own one now muahahahha) to japan and then if luck's with me, i might be able to update my blog over there about the trip :p but for now, money money come! XD

Back from KL

on 12/19/2007 12:16:00 PM

It's been very eventful and hectic last weekend. As i said in last post, the robotics club were promoting their event named Robotics Challenge Week in mid valley, courtesy of Play!Ex's organizer who gave us a free booth slot there.

Well, i skipped alot of classes this sem, so i dun mind skipping more :p Lilo, Ziqi and I went to KL with Mohan, my classmate + the driver, on Thursday night. The whole Savvy was packed with robots, boxes, and alot more other stuffs and luggages that we can hardly fit in the car :p It was tiring because i have just left work at 5pm and i had to go borrow batteries and redo circuit for the electromaze and stuff until 7pm, when Mohan came to pick me up. I barely packed and later on i found out i forgot to bring my hp charger *dies*

When we reached Midvalley around 10.15pm, The area was jammed with cars going out of the shopping mall. This is the first time for us to go to a shopping mall after closing hour so it's kinda fun to see shops all closed and cleaners in work uniform all over the place. Oh not to mention all the cleaners are foreign labors too. seems like Malaysians are all too good for menial jobs :p

Anyway we went to 3rd floor, and the exhibition site is beside the Lilian Too Feng Shui shop. Some of the booths were being set up and decorated at that moment so it looked bleak and run down. Our booth was free of charge, so we got the furthest corner slot from the main entrance. Despite that, We felt lost and awkward and most of all embarrassed to be there at all when we compare our own random n incomplete polystyrene with color paper cut-outs wordings and A4 monotone print outs with their printed colourful posters, eye-catching banners, buntings and attractive flyers. We were the only student booth around so we felt tensed. After much swearing and complaining with good reason, we start planning how to decorate with whatever limited resources we had. In the end, due to insufficient color papers and other stationeries we gave up and went back to Mohan's house after midnight.

The next day things were getting a little better as we fill the empty space with our pitiful amount of exhibition items: 2 mobile robots, one of which can't function, and 2 other electronic project from our lecturers. Our booth was still pathetic, having Celcom's huge purple site right opposite our booth and blocking all the view. Not to mention the killer sound system from the DJ booth which was stationed near the Celcom site. Since the Savvy couldn't take in anymore stuff, our mini games were left for those who will come in the evening. So all in all, it was bleak and uneventful for our booth, and sadly it applies to the whole event too, since there's not much crowd to begin with. On the lighter side, i finally went to Kim Gary HK restaurant to eat. The soup noodle is very good and the side vege is delicious XD Though it's abit too expensive for a simple meal like that, i think it's worth a try (for Muslims, sorry guys cos it's non halal >.<)

The other committees finally came around 5pm with more stationeries and robots the mini games. The games were set up and then i started to fix the robots up and charge batteries. the exhibition site looked abit more crowded, which was a good sign. All the booth around us are selling Toys, Anime merchandise, promoting Online Games, magazines and the very prominent Celcom Xpax prepaid card. And again, we looked so out of place orz. I think we should have moved to the edu fair at the other exhibition site beside ours :p

That night i stayed in my aunt's house, who fetched me from Midvalley after the event was closed for the day. Found out that my 2nd auntie was around too, with her 2 kids as well. It was the first time i saw the 2 kids so i was quite amazed how they looked like their parents, as well as my other auntie's kid haha. My sister were with them too, and had suffered long enuf to call them akuma-tachi. hahah.. well they were loud and always hungry for attention and they cry alot. all these i got to know in mere 2 hours >.<

For the 2nd day it was more crowded and better still, i managed to promote my mini game electromaze (where you are to hold a loop and go through a metal wire frame without touching them together) to the crowd and many tried their hands on it as it looked ultra simple. It tests the stability of your hands and your concentration power so luckily only 2 person of the whole 3 days won the game and each walking away with a prize of 1GB Kingston pendrive *ouch! the sales of keychains at our booth was ok too, despite the fact that we lost 6 sets of them when we left the items overnight on the site. In conclusion, we earn only a little sponsor money and a lot more of fatigue during the event.

Near evening, both my sisters came over to meet me up. My youngest sister, Li Li went to Comic Fiesta in Timesquare and hauled a lot of bookmarks and small badges for herself while she got me Kidchan's artbook 0.o with her signature on. It was damn expensive but hey, there's a signature on so nvm la hahaha *shoot self* after browsing her harvest, I went off early with them and our Auntie came to fetch us for a sort of reunion dinner in a Steamboat Restaurant. My 2nd auntie from singapore was there too, with her 2 cute akumas around. Anyhow, the steamboat with hot porridge is very nice indeed after adding in all the ingredients plus a raw egg xD

Sunday was my off duty day so I was able to go shopping with Loo Mun and the others doing training in KL. After light breakfast at my aunt's house, me and my younger sister went to Mid Valley to set up stuff, and then we went our different ways at the Monorail station as she will go on for the 2nd day of CF while i will go to Lot10 to meet LooMun up. It was around 12pm when Loo Mun, William, HR and CYC turned up so we walked to Pavilion together after that. It was huge and the White Christmas deco inside was really nice. We went to eat at a jap restaurant at the Lower Ground, where J.Co and the Cream Puff are located too. Then we went shopping as there were alot of mega sales and year end sales going on. Surprisingly and not without Loomun's influence, I got myself a slack from Element and a white shirt from MnG. they looked nice on me and so byebye to my pitiful amount of cash and hello to ATM machine :p

After that, we went off to Coffee Bean and i treated everyone with the RM10 vouchers i got from my aunt. And i finally get a chance to properly drink those ice-blends and food that i make and serve almost everyday hahaha. Then we move on to Timesquare as Loomun wanted to try on evening gowns. Too bad she can't get the ideal dress after alot of try out. At around 6pm, since it's free entrance by then, we went up to the 6th floor in timesquare for a glance of CF. the site looks abit run down but once we get inside, Fuh! it's packed with cosplayers and doujin booths. not bad la i can say haha. And i din know that Ce yi was involved in CF too! I saw alot of familiar faces and doujin booths. There are so many figurines on display. And there was a person cosplaying PACMAN. how cool is that XD Should really ask for photos from those who's been there for 2 days *stare at sis* I din buy anything though i wanted to, and too bad the moyashimons badges are no where to be seen T.T

Before we went back, Loo Mun and I had a haircut for RM13 at the speedcut shop in the pedestrian bridge across timesquare. Before it was our turn, there's an indian almost bald customer who had been in there for ages. We were waiting and cursing as he kept on requesting the hair stylist to cut a little here and there off his already hair-less head. When he was finally done, which was around half and hour later (hey old man it's suppose to be speedy cut! which part of speedy do you not understand?!) the stylist told us that the Indian baldy was picky cos his hair curled up after the cut and requested to cut it off. He even mention how the Pakistanis barber would do an easy job on that. man why can't he jz go for a barber then?! Never mind i hope his hair won't grow long any sooner *evil*. When it was our turn, we had some fun while talking to the metro sexual hair stylist and Loo Mun and her stylist were unable to stop laughing at our conversation :p haha.

and that's about it for the trip now. I'm now broke and did not get any oryzae fanart/badges.. *cries

on 12/09/2007 01:27:00 AM

here's a pic i colored recently.. not done yet tho. pencil art by Wounds as usual.

Damn I'm getting worse at work. wonder if it's the fault of my short term memory loss every time i go to work. it's like all the measurements and ingredient formulas vanish after i finish work, ie. volatile RAM data blank after reboot computer. It's the disappointed look that i get whenever i got sth wrong. sigh. i should really buck up or all the new trainees will look down on me..

Fight!! Li Sa!! Fight!! i will survive in this dog eat dog world!!

did i mentioned club activity that's taking a toll on me? sigh. wonder why i get into so much trouble.

Kamosuzo! (let's brew!)

on 12/05/2007 11:36:00 PM

YES. Lisa finally kicked her own lazy @ss and started blogging after 1 year of hiatus XD hurray for the world!

Alright. so i'm currently obsessed with moyashimon, as seen on the blog header. Moyashimon is actually an october anime series. it is also called Tale of agriculture. The main character Sawaki is a guy who can see microbes looking bigheaded and cute. The series has quite a fresh storyline and interesting info about microbes, which are too cute to not love them, don't you agree? XD Even though Dexter reminded me that they are really Micro-organism, which make us sick and get food poisoning and bad for hygiene, still, moyashimons are too cute, especially Oryzae, which is the yellow one with dreadlocks. It is a yeast for making bread so it's a good microbe XD.

Well, my desktop has 5 of those microbes floating and swirling around. There's one big oryzae there too! if you are interested to get them, do go to this japanese website where you can find a flash game for you to play gashapon for 5 microbes a day. My sister is currently addicted to it too XD and the oryzae desktop toy can only be obtained if you gathered all 30 types of microbes, which i finally did 2 days ago, after gashapon-ing for a week :p I can stare at them for minutes doing nothing XD here's a screenshot of my desktop:

Hmm.. so i think that's enough about moyashimon. Let's get back to Life, shall we? :p actually that's a TV series that i'm currently watching too. Now I'm having my Delta year 2nd trimester, and unfortunately(?) i have only 1 subject to study, so to kill the free time, I am working part time in Coffee Bean. I got this part time through my aunt, who's from the higher ups in the company. I am working for 3 weeks now, and that's why most of the time you don't see my in campus. It was hell for my flat feet for the first few times i go to work, but i'm getting used to it now, i hope.

Besides, i got myself involved in Robocon previously, but then finding that i can't have both the cake and eat it, i decided to pull out since it's too time consuming and tiring for me. Last week we (robocon ppl) went to KL for the Robofest. It was super stressful and nerve breaking as we kept on servicing out robots, which are very unstable and due to my terrible negligance, i can say that its fatal consequence is one of the many reasons that caused us to lose the match badly. So UTM and UniTEN got first and 2nd place (if i'm not mistaken, was too upset to take note that time) and we went back to Melaka drained and disappointed. I really hope those robocon guys can make it next year. I'm sure to go and support them if it doesn't clash with my finals.

As for this weekend, I'll still be working in Coffee Bean and I'm gonna wear a santa hat! XD we have a new part-timer so i have to buck up even more to set a good example for her, though i think i already screwed my image as i kept on forgetting the ingredients and measurements for the drinks *ouch*. Next weekend I'm going to KL for early Christmas celebration haha. Since Robotics club is going to have a booth in Midvalley next week, as the exhibition head i had to present the fyi projects from our university at the booth. 3 Days there at the Play!exhibition, so no way I'll stick there whole day long! Loo Mun, June and William they all are going to meet me up at Pavilion then we'll have fun for once after they went industrial training.

And Comic Fiesta.. hmm. I dun think I'll be going this year. Since both my sisters are going there, for sure they would sweep back home all the nice artwork they can afford, so i will go to other places and have fun XD

Till then, blogging will become a habit of mine once more, i swear! XD
